Diabetes Program

American Diabetes Association's Diabetes Risk Appraisal (also available in Spanish)

Explains the risk factors for diabetes and offers a simple self-test to measure personal risk factors.

ABCs of Diabetes Class Schedule

Lists the locations, dates, and times for the ABCs of Diabetes classes offered free of charge to Marion County residents. The ABCs of Diabetes is a four-part series which addresses issues such as medication, nutrition, blood glucose monitoring, exercise, and long-term management.

Explains what cholesterol is, how it is measured, and how to reduce dietary cholesterol.

Aerobic Exercise:   Developing Your Personal Aerobics Plan

Explains how to find your target heart rate, choose the right aerobics, improve muscle flexibility and strength, do conditioning exercises, and stretch properly.

Understanding Cardiovascular Disease:   Diseases of the Heart and Blood Vessels

Explains how the heart works, what blood vessels do, and common cardiovascular disorders.

Understanding Heart Attacks:   What Can Happen...What You Should Do

Explains what happens during a heart attack, symptoms, and what to do in the case of a heart attack.


Sickle Cell Counseling and Education Program

About Sickle Cell Disease and Sickle Cell Trait

Discusses why it is so important to learn about sickle cell disease, what the difference is between sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease, and how sickle cell can be passed down from one generation to the next. Also explains the health problems associated with the disease and the types of treatment for sickle cell disease.

The Family Connection:   Hemoglobin C Trait

Explains that the hemoglobin C Trait will not affect the baby's health. Discusses why the baby inherited hemoglobin C trait and how genes are passed down from generation to generation. Also available in Spanish.
