With the exception of Unspecified Dementia, the cause of death categories for deaths of all ages used in this report are taken from the List of 113 Selected Causes of Death in the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) Instruction Manual, Part 9, ICD-10 Cause-of-Death Lists for Tabulating Mortality Statistics, Updated October 2002.[579] The List of 113 Selected Causes of Death is used by NCHS to rank leading causes of death for the all-ages population.[580] Unspecified dementia (ICD-10 code F03) is included in the causes of death for Marion County because of its high occurrence locally. It is not represented in the List of 113 Selected Causes of Death because it is not identified as a rankable cause of death by NCHS.
