COMMUNITY OUTREACH WORKER/TEMPORARY (Part-Time) - Indianapolis Healthy Start
This position is temporary from February 1, 2004 – May 31, 2004, with no benefits. This position is responsible for providing outreach services primarily for the African American community with focus on promoting the Indianapolis Healthy Start program, getting women into prenatal care early, promoting the birth of healthy babies by focusing on preventing pre-term labor, and by helping reduce disparities in health care in Marion County. Responsible for helping families access health and social services in the community to meet their needs. Outreach to the community will be accomplished through street outreach, home visits, and contact with churches or community groups to explain the Indianapolis Healthy Start program, recruit clients, and provide information about the program. A High School diploma or equivalent, and previous experience preferred. Valid Indiana driver’s license and access to own transportation required for in county travel.

DENTAL ASSISTANT - Dental Services
This position is responsible for setting, and maintaining appointment schedule to maximize number of patients seen and procedures done, educating patients on dental needs, and handing out materials and supplies to improve dental health of patient and community. Duties to run dental clinic include keeping insurance, fees, computer entry, supplies and sterilization complete to maximize safety and increase dental health of community. Certification in diagnostic radiography by the Indiana State Board of health and eligibility for on-the-job training required. DISTRICT HEALTH WORKER - South District Health Office/Northwest District Health Office
This position is responsible for providing standardized vision and audiometric hearing screenings to children in public and township schools. Responsible for providing services to individuals and families (DOT), and providing medical to clients suffering from TB reactors to the disease. Responsible for entering results from vision and hearing screenings and mailing letters to parents; follow-up vision and audiometric into computer files from health fairs and other community events. MOSQUITO CONTROL TECHNICIAN – Vector Borne Disease Prevention
This position is responsible for conducting field research and performing appropriate activities and procedures to control mosquito activity and prevent possible outbreaks of related diseases. Responsible for providing indirect supervision of technicians regarding monitoring, source reduction, and container breeding sites. Responsibilities include checking known or potential mosquito breeding sites for presence of mosquito larvae or adults; applies insecticides by spraying or other control measures to reduce/eliminate the potential disease-bearing and nuisance of the mosquito population in Marion County. Valid Indiana driver’s license is required.

This position is responsible for preparing high-level secretarial and quasi-administrative tasks supportive to the activities of the assigned department. This position is responsible for monitoring and on-going training of staff for numerous vendors to assure compliance with program policies throughout Marion County. Responsible for being available to provide assistance regarding use of checks to WIC program staff(including managers and staff in clinics), WIC participants, and vendors. Must posses strong written and oral communication skills and be able to interact with a diverse population. Ability to: type 30 wpm, and familiarity with Microsoft Office software. A High School diploma, and at least three year’s previous experience is required. Experience in the WIC program is preferred. CLINIC NURSE - Action Center
This position is responsible for performing nursing services as a health team member in Adolescent, Pediatric, OB/GYN, and Family Planning clinics. Responsible for providing health education and patient counseling to control and prevent disease, and promote optimum health and well being of clients, to include the HIPPA Federal Law. Knowledge of: disease processes and their treatment/prevention; basic sciences, current clinical protocol/nursing techniques, medication/drugs and their use/side effects; community resources/referrals; culture attitudes/customs; and, appropriate departmental procedures and Local/State/Federal laws/regulations. Ability to: communicate interpersonally; follow direction; prioritize duties and be flexible; work effectively in stressful situations and use professional judgment; apply problem-solving methodologies; teach, motivate patients; and, display sensitivity/empathy/appropriate response to culture patterns, and difference. DATA SPECIALIST/BELL FLOWER – Acute and Chronic Disease
This position is responsible for onsite management of STD program computer-based information systems. Responsible for analysis and management of STD Control Program data including the computerized medical record stored by the program STD*MIS and its interface with the hard copy medical record system. Responsibilities include cross training of new applications such as the Client Management Information System (CMIS), and management functions necessary for the implementation of the STD programs as designated by the Medical Director and Co-director. A Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four- year college or university, and preferably one to two years related experience and/or training required. This individual must possess or be willing to obtain a comprehensive understanding of STD and HIV disease prevention theories, comprehensive surveillance systems to effectively implement these processes.

NURSE EPIDEMIOLGIST I HIV(Part-time) – Acute and Chronic Disease
This position is responsible for investigation of HIV/AIDS and application of control and prevention modalities. Responsibility also includes study, coordination, surveillance, evaluation and health education relative to prevention and control of infectious disease. Responsible for serving as consultant to physicians, public health nurses, hospital infection control personnel and the general public in matters related to HIV/AIDS. A Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a National League for Nursing accredited program with emphasis on epidemiology, infectious diseases, microbiology, statistics or related courses, and three years of experience as a professional nurse, including at least one year of hospital practice and two years of practice in a public setting with progressive management responsibilities. A Master’s degree in public health nursing or epidemiology is preferred. Knowledge of: health education, human behavior, social environment, HIV/STD and other infectious disease, prevention interventions, HIV counseling, testing and treatment. PROJECT S.H.A.P.E. Summer AmeriCorps Members (Six Full-time Summer Positions)
These positions are full-time summer positions from mid-May to early August. They are AmeriCorps Community Service positions in which there will be a summer living expense stipend paid and an educational award for completing 450 hours of service. These positions will be responsible for assisting in the execution of a health assessment program for children attending summer camp programs. Knowledge of: Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access, and office equipment, such as a copier and fax machine ect. Ability to: work independently as well as part of a team, pay close attention to detail. Applicant must be a current college student. Applicant must meet the requirements to become an AmeriCorps Member. A valid driver’s license and own transportation required for in county travel to and from community organizations throughout the day and possibly a few early evenings and Saturday mornings.

This position is responsible for promoting the health and well being of a targeted population which will be primarily high-risk clients with Asthma/COPD, Diabetes, and Congestive Heart Failure. Clients will receive preventative, therapeutic, educative and follow-up nursing services. Nursing intervention will be directed toward identifying health needs, referrals to community agencies, resources and follow-up, and the ability to work week-end/holiday hours as needed. A Bachelor's degree-nursing program that includes public nursing from a NLN accredited college program, and previous work experience as a professional, registered nurse is preferred.
