Water Quality and Hazardous Materials Management
This Department is responsible for several programs designed
to improve the environmental health and safety of Marion County
residents and employees. Staff members ensure proper construction
and operation of private septic systems, proper installation
of new residential wells, and proper design and maintenance of
swimming pools. Environmental Health Specialists sample surface
water and ground water to detect threats to environmental health,
and inspects child care facilities to ensure safe and healthy
conditions. Hazardous Materials Specialists respond with fire
departments to hazardous materials emergencies and try to prevent
chemical accidents and environmental contamination through inspection
and education programs that focus on proper handling, storage,
and disposal of hazardous materials.
