What is the Occupational Health Program?

The Occupational Health Program improves working conditions and reduces protential job-related illnesses and injuries in Marion County. Safe and healthy workers and workplaces are the goals of the Occupational Health Program. The occupational health specialist is available to assist employers and employees in identifying workplace hazards and in complying with federal and state regulations.

Services currently available include conducting field investigations of possible health hazards in the workplace, providing technical information about chemical and physical hazards, personal protective equipment, engineering control technology, and occupational diseases and injuries. In addition, staff offer training assistance to educate employers and employees about job-related health hazards.

Although these services are available to organizations of all sizes, the program's focus is the needs of small businesses. Small business owners often find it challenging to stay up-to-date with emerging health and safety issues or changing regulations.

Teen Worker Safety

Reducing occupational injuries in teenagers continues to be a goal of the occupational health program. Staff attend school and community health fairs throughout the year to get the word out about adolescent worker safety. Teenagers are provided information about both Indiana child labor laws and safety on the job, including safe work habits and how to avoid an injury risk.
