2006 Marion County Health Department Mosquito Fact Sheet

  • Anyone with questions or concerns about mosquitoes are encouraged to contact the Marion County Health Department at 221-7440.
  • There have been no confirmed human cases of West Nile virus in Marion County this mosquito season.
  • There are four positive pools of mosquitoes with West Nile virus reported in Marion County in 2006. These sites were in Washington, Warren, Center and Washington Townshi ps.
  • 1,206 passenger tires turned in during June 10, 2006 Tire Amnesty Day event.
  • Mosquito season is generally considered to be April through the second hard frost of autumn.
  • Mosquitoes associated with the West Nile virus are most active in the early evening and the early morning.
